Production- Roles (film opening)

ROLES: Actress: Briana Aggoli Director: Maya Freitas Editor: Zander Duncan Producer: Evangeline Oppel (me) My Role:       As the producer, I oversee how the film opening is being executed and ensure that the overall vision stays true throughout the filming process. I was a major contributor to writing the script, helping to shape the narrative and video composition. I worked with the director, Maya Freitas, to discuss how certain scenes should be captured.      I also worked with the editor to ensure that the pacing matched the genre. For example, I suggested certain transitions in order to achieve continuity, along with a series of montages to create the films narrative. I also helped arrange things like filming times and filming locations. I helped manage time during production to ensure we stayed on schedule and completed all planned shots. Overall, my role as producer required leadership, organization, and a lot of creative input. I made su...

Production- Risk Assessment (film opening)

Risk Assessment: #1- Equipment breaking hazard      In the script, during the vanity scene, the actress, Briana, has to use a 'glow recipe' product in which she will drop into a trashcan in order to flip to our production studios credits. This flagged as a risk through the potential breaking of equipment.       The director also wants to use a lot of low-angle shots, which may result in the camera dropping from a high place. This outcome could have delayed filming and slowed down the production process. In order to prevent this from happening, I can place tissues and padding in the trashcan to prevent any glass breakage, and the director will take planning shots to ensure the camera won't fall. #2- Audio Quality     Theres a chance the audio won't be the quality our film opening am aiming for since my group is not sure how the acoustics of the filming location will sound on camera. In order to combat this potential risk, we are going t...

Production- Props (film opening)

Props: -Alarm clock in the very first scene -Glow Recipe skincare products during vanity scene. -Plates of food used to distinguish fake vs. reality -Polaroid pictures taped to mirror sequenced in credits -Gym bag       These everyday objects create realism and narrative, showing symbols of influencer culture, consumerism, and "perfection". Together, these props create visual binary oppositions between illusion and reality. It clearly shows the film's representation in the props through what the characters personal wants her viewers to see, vs. what her life is actually like.

Planning- Film Poster (film opening)

Image
ANALYSIS: As the producer, my job varies, but I took advantage of my ability to market the film by creating a film poster. This shows institutional influence by marketing to the target audience, which is teens and young adults, and regulating the distribution of the product.

Film Openings Analysis: Title: Black Swan  Opening-      The opening of Black Swan shows psychological pressure right away. The lighting is dark and intense, which creates a serious and tense mood. The main character, Nina, feels pressure to be perfect in ballet.  The film explores the idea of having two sides the public version and the private version. How it connects:      This connects to my film because the character also feels pressure to be perfect, but instead of ballet, it’s social media. The Black Swan movie challenges the idea that being perfect is what leads to happiness. My film does the same thing by showing that the influencers online perfection hides real emotions. Title: Mean Girls (2004) Opening-      The opening of Mean Girls introduces teenage stereotypes by showing how girls are placed into categories based on appearance and popularity. The film uses bright colors and strong personality types to show the hiera...

Research- Project Concept (film opening)

Project Concept: Our film opening shows how social media can be fake and not show real life. The story follows an influencer, who looks confident and happy online, but in reality, is struggling emotionally.  The opening uses social media style clips to show what she posts, and then shows what is actually happening behind the scenes. This helps the audience understand the main message that online life is not always real. Various aspects go into the production of a film, so securing the concept of my project will ultimately be a major pillar throughout the steps of production. The concept that me, the director, the editor, and the actor have built will provide the film direction, depth and meaning.

Research- Audience & influence (film opening)

Image
Audience & Representation:      The target audience is teenagers and young adults. Briana, the actress, plays an influencer character, which is common in this genre. At first, she fits the stereotype of being confident and perfect online, but the film challenges this by showing her real emotions and struggles. This helps the audience understand that social media does not always show the truth. Institutional Influence:       Since the target audience is teenagers and young adults, the film would likely be supported by institutions that focus on younger audiences. Streaming platforms like Netflix are known for producing and distributing that kind of content that explores social media culture, identity, and psychological themes that attract young and modern viewers. Because my film is about an influencer character and the pressure of online perfection, it fits the type of content often prioritized by popular streaming services because it appeals ...

Research- codes & conventions (film opening)

Image
Conventions: The film opening fits into the drama and psychological genre because it focuses on emotions and personal struggle. It represents the anxieties and dark side of social media using mise-en-scene, diegetic/ambient sounds, composition, and the codes listed below. Technical Codes: I, the producer, suggested to the director we include camera shots like close ups where we show the actresses' feelings, especially during emotional moments. The low angle shots are used in social media clips to make her look confident.  Lighting and appearance look more polished online and more natural in private moments. Diegetic sounds such as phone notifications, alarms, and phone calls makes the scenes feel realistic. Non-diegetic background music is used to build emotion and tension. Symbolic Codes: I suggested editing be fast during social media clips to match apps like TikTok and Instagram. The editing also shows contrast between what Briana posts and what actually happens in real life. ...
