Film Openings Analysis:

Title: Black Swan 

Opening-

    The opening of Black Swan shows psychological pressure right away. The lighting is dark and intense, which creates a serious and tense mood. The main character, Nina, feels pressure to be perfect in ballet.  The film explores the idea of having two sides the public version and the private version.

How it connects:

    This connects to my film because the character also feels pressure to be perfect, but instead of ballet, it’s social media. The Black Swan movie challenges the idea that being perfect is what leads to happiness. My film does the same thing by showing that the influencers online perfection hides real emotions.

Title: Mean Girls (2004)

Opening-

    The opening of Mean Girls introduces teenage stereotypes by showing how girls are placed into categories based on appearance and popularity. The film uses bright colors and strong personality types to show the hierarchies in high school.

How it connects:

    This connects to my film because the influencer first appears as the 'perfect influencer' kind of stereotype. She looks confident and put together. However, just like how the movie Mean Girls shows how girls are labeled, my film challenges the stereotype of influencers being flawless. I wanted to show that social media only shows the part of someone’s life that they want people to see, not the full reality.
