How our music video uses these conventions                                                                                          Our music video intentionally uses the sad and disconnected tone because it matches both the lyrics and mood of the song. We show the character as emotionally distant to represent feelings of nostalgia, confusion, and the difficulty of growing up. By leaning into this convention, our video stays authentic to the genre and allows the audience to emotionally connect with the character. Rather than challenging this representation, we use it purposefully to communicate the theme of losing innocence and struggling with identity.

Why this representation is effective
This representation works well because it speaks directly to the target audience. Many viewers can relate to feeling disconnected at some point in their lives. By using familiar emotions and visuals, our video feels believable and genuine. The sadness is not meant to be dramatic, but reminiscent, which aligns strongly with indie/alt conventions.
