Research- Codes and Conventions (music video)

Codes & Conventions:

Camera conventions                                                                                                                                             A common convention is handheld camera or slightly unstable movement because it feels natural and human. Shots are often medium shots and close ups so the audience can read emotion without needing lots of dialogue. Wide shots are used too, but usually to show loneliness or distance.

Mise-en-scene conventions
The locations are 'normal places' like school hallways, the courtyard, or a field. Costumes are casual, like hoodies and sweatpants to relate to a younger modern audience. The lighting is natural light or dim warm indoor lighting to create a nostalgic mood.

Editing conventions
As the editor, I made sure the editing is slow and mood based. the video jump cuts and long shots. Some include 'imperfect' graphics like grain or blur to match the non-diegetic and ambient sound and emotions.

How our video follows or challenges
The music video will follow the genre by having a realistic setting and a nostalgic tone. But, the film will also challenge the genre by adding at least one strong visual idea that feels symbolic.
